After a long year (and then some) of being cooped up, most of us are eager to pack up and head out for a vacation as soon as possible. Thankfully, we’ve made enough progress here in the U.S. that safer travel is now in the realm of possibility. With summer approaching, now is a great time to start planning a fun getaway for you and your favorite travel companions. Keep these tips in mind to help you arrange an experience that allows everyone to vacation safely!
International travel isn’t impossible right now, but it’s still riskier and more restrictive than a domestic trip will be. Most U.S. states no longer have any quarantine or negative COVID-19 test requirements for domestic travelers, while many other countries still have them in place for international travelers (and Americans specifically). Plus, there are plenty of destinations in the U.S. that can be just as exciting, adventurous, relaxing, or whatever else you’re looking for out of a vacation.
Pay attention to local guidelines.
Different states and different cities across the U.S. have different COVID-19 rules in place. Regulations may even vary between major tourist sites. Be sure to research the rules for where you’re going and respect them when you get there. Find out about things like whether you’ll need to wear a mask, present a negative test, or have vaccination documentation.
Look for social distancing-friendly spots.
Social distancing is still recommended (or required) in many places. To make your vacation easier and safer, plan activities that can accommodate the 6-foot rule. For example, outdoorsy locations such as beaches and mountains are ideal for distancing and fun.
Work with a travel planner.
With all of the relative uncertainty there still is around travel, working with a travel advisor to arrange your vacation can be very beneficial. They will help you navigate any local requirements, and plan a safe trip that still provides the travel experience you envision. A travel advisor will also be able to find good deals and recommend good travel insurance if they think it’s worth it. Also, if you end up needing to cancel, they can advocate on your behalf to get your money back or a credit if you need to change your booking.
